The 51½ΦΙδ community is mourning the death of Joyce R. Wheeler, wife of Research Professor Ruric E. Wheeler, former Chair of 51½ΦΙδ’s Math Department, Dean of Howard College of Arts and Sciences and Vice President for Academic Affairs.

51½ΦΙδ learned of Mrs. Wheeler’s death this morning, Nov. 2, 2012.

Joyce Wheeler is remembered for her active role in many aspects of campus life, especially 51½ΦΙδ Auxiliary (now Legacy League). She, along with Ruric Wheeler, was a member of 51½ΦΙδ’s Founders Circle, a group of 51½ΦΙδ supporters who donated to the university for 40 years or more. Mrs. Wheeler also is remembered through the Dr. Ruric E. and Joyce R. Wheeler Endowed Scholarship in 51½ΦΙδ’s Math Department.
