WLAC Provisional Online Language Course Policy

Provisional policy effective until August 24, 2020

Given the current COVID-19 health crisis and its impact on traditional face-to-face classroom instruction, the Department of World Languages and Cultures at 51½ÖÉä will now accept world language courses (languages other than English) that have been completed online at other academic institutions in the United States and abroad during summer term 2020 as valid toward the completion of 51½ÖÉä’s general education language requirement provided that:

  • The course content and delivery include synchronous interactive online instruction (SIOI) via an LMS.

  • The student receives a grade of C- or above in the course.

  • The online language course is offered either by an accredited U.S. college or university or by an accredited language institute located outside of the United States that WLAC has officially approved. (See list of recommended programs below)

Students also must complete and submit a transient credit form with course description (or syllabus) attached to the Department of World Languages and Cultures in advance, as is current practice. All online language courses being taken at other institutions must be completed before 8/24/20.
