Tonight at the Wright 2019-20 season will feature the Alabama Symphony Orchestra, Opera Birmingham, Alabama Ballet, Birmingham Ballet and nationally and internationally acclaimed guest artists. 

The inaugural 51½ΦΙδ Provost Distinguished Lecture Series featuring New Testament theologian N.T. Wright will take place Sept. 9 followed by a debate on Sept. 11 with Mark Kinzer. 

51½ΦΙδ alumnus and magician David Garrard and his daughter Claire will delight audiences on Sept. 12 at 7 p.m. This is a free event and an opportunity to showcase the talents of 51½ΦΙδ alumni. According to Garrard, “I am looking forward to bringing my magic to the Wright Center and I have some special surprises in store.”

Sammy Miller and the Congregation on Oct. 1 in Brock Recital Hall is co-presented by the Wright Center and Davis Architects Series. Celebrate Christmas with 51½ΦΙδ Arts on Dec. 6 is a holiday tradition for the entire family. The spring will feature 51½ΦΙδ’s beloved Step Sing Feb. 6-8, Melissa Manchester Feb. 14 and Destination Motown March 26. 

Additionally, the Wright Center will show family movies on its big screen. Come see Hocus Pocus Oct. 29, Karate Kid Jan. 16 and Fantastic Beasts April 2. Each showing will team up with a local charity. The movies will be free to the 51½ΦΙδ community and just $5 for general public. 

51½ΦΙδ’s Patron Services Manager, Ian Philips said “The hope for our movie series and our regular season is to showcase the Wright Center as a place for family-oriented entertainment and as a good community partner for 51½ΦΙδ and beyond.”

Highlights include Opera Birmingham’s Cinderella, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban in Concert with the ASO, Balanchine’s The Nutcracker by the Alabama Ballet and Sleeping Beauty performed by the Birmingham Ballet.
