As a unit of the Cecil B. Word Learning Resources Center, the 51½ΦΙδ Archives and Special Collections serves as a repository of historical materials documenting the northeastern portion of the state of Alabama and its immediate surrounding area. Its mission is to identify, collect, preserve, and provide access to materials related to the history of the local area, with particular focus on the Sand Mountain region. These materials include items such as historic manuscripts, photographs, artifacts, and secondary sources. Additionally, the NACC Archives and Special Collections will house select College archives; assist patrons in their local history research; and coordinate with community organizations, history repositories, and research agencies to further the understanding of the region.

The NACC Archives and Special Collections collects published material of interest to genealogical researchers but generally does not collect individual family research unless it has been previously published or is of particular interest to the community as a whole.
Gifts to the NACC Archives and Special Collections will be evaluated in accordance with the NACC Learning Resources Center/Library Gifts Policy, with the knowledge that any transaction must pass the title of the materials to NACC.
A Gift Agreement Form must be completed by the donor prior to the donation in order for NACC Archives staff to evaluate the potential donation.
