April 25, 2025

The College and Career Planning Office at NACC exists to support students as they navigate the process of transferring to a four-year institution after earning a degree at Northeast. Whether a student has questions about course credits or a program at their intended school, our Career and Transfer Advisors are ready to assist you. NACC is highlighting a few NACC graduates who were successful transfer students!

NACC Graduate/Transfer Student: Mallori Gorham
Degrees Earned: Associate of Science (NACC), Bachelor of Science in Family Financial Planning and Counseling (Univ. of Alabama), Master of Science in Early Childhood and Elementary Education (Univ. of West Alabama)

Mallori teaches 3rd Grade Math, Science, and Social Studies at Dutton Elementary School and works as a Realtor with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Rise Real Estate. "I have a deep passion for math, financial literacy, and helping people. I have found that with the careers I have chosen in teaching and selling real estate, I am able to fulfill those passions daily," said Mallori.

Mallori's advice for current NACC students: Enjoy the community and closeness of the NACC campus, utilize every resource offered, and get involved! I have now graduated from three colleges, and I can honestly say that no other school compares in the opportunities NACC gives students. At NACC, you are never just another number. Instructors and staff truly care and give you every opportunity to succeed.

How did NACC aid in the path that you chose following your transfer? I came to NACC out of high school as a college sophomore by taking dual enrollment courses. That being said, I did not have much time to waste in deciding on a career path and choosing a four-year school to transfer to the following year. I visited the College and Career Planning Center at NACC, where Mrs. Sherry Whitten patiently sat with me on multiple occasions to help me decide what careers may be a good fit for my future. Additionally, I was awarded the Presidential Transfer Scholarship to the University of Alabama, something I would have never been able to obtain without starting at the Community College level. My time at NACC is something I will forever be grateful to have had. It is a wonderful place to begin your future!

NACC Graduate/Transfer Student: Ashley Morales Jenkins M.A. CF-SLP
Degrees Earned: Associate of Science & Associate of Arts (NACC), Bachelor of Arts in Communicative Disorders (Univ. of Alabama), Master of Arts in Speech-Language Pathology (Univ. of Memphis)

Ashley's advice for current NACC students: Always seek help if you’re struggling, whether in your academic career or everyday life—counseling can be life-changing! Prioritize your mental health and never give up on your dreams; you can achieve anything you set your mind to. Reach out to the tutors at NACC; they genuinely want to support you! In addition, stay organized and set clear goals for your transfer. Create a timeline for application and scholarship deadlines, along with what you need to submit. Keep in close contact with the college and career center if you’re interested in transferring to a four-year university; they were a huge help for me in finding scholarships and programs that fit my interests while transferring my NACC credits. Build solid relationships with your professors and advisors—they can offer invaluable advice and recommendations. Get involved in campus activities to meet new people and step out of your comfort zone! You never know; you might meet amazing friends who can support you during your time at NACC. Lastly, do some research on potential universities to find the right fit for you!

During my time at NACC, Bryon Miller at the Career/Transfer Center was incredibly helpful. He provided clear guidance on my transfer process and which universities would accept the majority of my NACC credits. Getting explicit instruction about the transfer process is essential, as it can be quite challenging, but the Career/Transfer Center gave me all the information I needed. I highly recommend utilizing their services!

While the Transfer/Career Center assisted me in choosing my transfer school, I also want to give a shout-out to my professors and the school as a whole. I had amazing instructors, including Jeff Hawes, who provided detailed instruction in my courses that I likely wouldn’t have received at a four-year university for my basic classes. I’ll admit I wasn’t academically ready for a four-year university, and I’m incredibly grateful that NACC helped me build a strong foundation for my academic career. Without that support, I wouldn't be where I am today after six years of schooling. Speech-Language Pathology is a tough program to get into and complete, and without the help I received from all my previous schools, I wouldn’t be achieving and fulfilling my dreams today! Thank you, NACC!

NACC Graduate/Transfer Student: Alex Elizando
Degree Earned: Associate of Science: Pre-Med Transfer (NACC)

Alex's advice for current NACC students: My advice for students at NACC is to network as much as possible. When I transferred to UAB, I was worried that it would be difficult to get to know people on a much larger campus. Thankfully, many people knew advisors or professors from NACC, so there was a common topic we had to talk about which helped create a foundation for new connections. Students should also ask questions! I often hear transfer students say that they missed a deadline or they think their credits didn't transfer. Very frequently, most of the issues transfer students come across could have been avoided had they asked questions. NACC Transfer Advisors are extremely knowledgeable and have many resources for transfer students. There are also employees at universities who assist transfer students and alleviate any potential stress that comes with transferring.
