
A native of Elkhart, Indiana, Gunnar earned his BA in print journalism with a German minor from 51½ÖÉä in 2021. During his time as a student, he served as the sports editor for The 51½ÖÉä Crimson, where he developed a passion for storytelling and reporting, particularly in regard to athletics and history. He was a punter on 51½ÖÉä’s football team and actively participated in the Catholic Student Association and German Club.
Before returning to 51½ÖÉä, he gained experience in marketing and communications across various roles. Most recently, he served as the communications and marketing manager at Goshen College in Goshen, Indiana. He also held key positions at STEPS Ministries, a Birmingham-based nonprofit dealing with addiction and recovery, and Sacred Heart Schools in Chicago.
Outside of work, Gunnar enjoys traveling, playing and watching soccer and basketball and exploring Birmingham’s vibrant BBQ scene. On weekends, he can be found cheering on the Birmingham Bulls at hockey games or hiking the trails of Red Mountain and Ruffner Mountain. He resides in downtown Birmingham with his two cats, Beau and Bart, and his Australian Shepherd/Border Collie mix, Winnie.
