Job Description
Student assistants in Interlibrary Loan & Acquisitions facilitate interlibrary loan requests through copying and scanning of print and microfilm library resources; packaging and opening boxes of library materials; data entry in Windows software and ILL software; and physical delivery and pickup of items to/from campus offices. These tasks require an understanding of library shelving practices, ILLiad software for interlibrary loan processing, library catalog searching and checkout/check-in procedures, and use of office machines such as printers, scanners, microfilm reader/printers, telephones, and fax machines. On-the-job training includes these tasks as well as completion of printed and software-based skills tests. This position requires conscientious attention to detail, disciplined monitoring and performance of tasks already in process, and professional and courteous customer service. Student assistants will also occasionally assist with work in Microsoft Excel and with other duties as assigned.
Federal Work/Study earnings will be paid biweekly in the form of a check or direct deposit payable to the student. This award does not credit to the account of the student as payment toward University charges.
Required Qualifications
Required: This dept. is open 8:30 - 4:30 M-F. Student assistants must be able to work independently. Some tasks require lifting and moving boxes weighing up to 10 pounds and pushing loaded book carts weighing up to 40 pounds. Deliveries on campus require walking in sometimes inclement weather conditions while carrying a loaded book bag or wheeling a book cart. Preferred: Familiarity with Microsoft Office products, particularly Word and Excel; experience using copiers and scanners.
